3rd Flight Boxed Airmail Postmark
In June 1930 two R.A.F seaplanes made several visits to towns throughout North Borneo. Mails carried in such a flight were cancelled with a special boxed cachet. The second flight (April 1933) via seaplanes S147, S1420 and S1151 made similar survey visits but did not carry any mails. The third flight took place in 06.06.1949 from Jesselton to other towns. No other towns were involved in the third flight and as such no airmail postmarks were produced.

Got this picture from Anthony recently. I think the postmark is very nice and worth a mention, and is especially related to my post about the Kudat vs Kuching postmark
here. The date in the Kudat postmark is 31 MAR 1911. I don't know how, but the stamps may have been kept for a while before being used in 1911, as the stamps are released in 1909 and overprinted in the same year just after 2 months. But the postmark is definetely Kudat, while the one I posted before was Kuching:
Sarawakiana concludes that the Kuching postmark on the stamp may be cancelled by favour on a previously dummy-cancelled N. Borneo stamps. Nevertheless, I think it's always nice to have both Kudat and Kuching postmarks on the same stamps for comparison...

Got this set recently for a mere £10 from a UK seller. Sometimes you got lucky even in a place like ebay. As Silamstar puts it "God is fair!". I guess he's even luckier to have bought the whole set of 1939 stamps for $6! Wait, for just $6? You gotta be kidding me! :)

"Most Wanted June & July 2010"
Even when June and July months combined, the top stuffs on ebay are still relatively inexpensive compared to the previous months. Perhaps it's the football factor. Or maybe because it's summer that people tend to go for long vacations etc. Nevertheless, old postcards dominate the list this time. We rarely see postcards go on top of the list...

Murut Headman
The pictures above show a Murut headman from the Resident of Interior, either from Rundum or Pensiangan region. The 3 cents stamp of 1931 B.N.B Co. anniversary incorparates the picture for its design. Not much is known as to the identity of the person in the picture but he is probably photograhphed after the 1915 Rundum Rebellion.
On the lighter note, I've joined the 'yam-cha' session last saturday in Penampang which was really fun. I can't wait to join the next session as Gantianexpress may be showing his awesome collection. :)

I recently came across to this nice stamp in ebay, bearing a supposedly rare postmark. The first thing that you'll notice is the oval of bars postmark at the top right corner, which means that the stamp is originally cancelled-to-ordered.
I don't know the exact date but it is likely to be Oct 192_. This date is problematic because the stamp is released on the 1st of July 1909 and overprinted with "20 cents" on the 7th of September 1909 (only after 2 months of its release). The town is probably Kuching because the third letter resembles C more than D. However, because Kuching is a 7 letter word, while Kudat is a 5 letter word, the K would be much lower in the circle if it was Kuching.
There is a similar stamp
here (Silamstar's). Compare the postmark, particularly the town and date.

This week has been a great week where one of the rarest North Borneo postmarks of Labuk & Sugut apperead in ebay. It's nice to know that the final price of the stamps reached $316.00, making it the single most expensive cds of North Borneo in ebay so far this year.
Labuk and Sugut district, which forms part of the Sandakan Residency, is of vast extent and embraces the country drained by the Labuk, Sugut and Paitan Rivers. It joins the district of Marudu in the north and the Interior Residency in the west. The head-quarters of the district were at Klagan (on the Labuk River), seven hours from Sandakan by launch, but owing to the difficulties of the bar and the fact that the station was continually being flooded, it was moved to Beluran in Labuk Bay. With some exception, almost all of the travelling to Klagan HQ has to be done by native boat. The country, a region of vast, gloomy forests, is sparsely inhabited save in the river area, where Orang Sungei (River Folk) are found.

The date of the cds is probably 23 FEB 1907. Proud recorded the dates to be from 6 MAY 1903 to 2 NOV 1907. Examples of cds dated 30 OCT 1912 on 20c and and 25c stamps and 30 OCT 1916, are all possibly CTOs. The picture above shows the Labuk & Sugut postmarks, taken from Sarawak Specialist Society site (ref. Robert S. Cragg). The cds are more obvious and clear, showing similar dates of 30 OCT 1912.
From the same seller, there's also a Brooketon cds on North Borneo and Sarawak stamps, which sells for $162.49.
